For my first bar post, I have chosen Fabrica Maravillas' brew pub in Madrid.

I have already written posts on a couple of their beers and I will write another post on their brewing facilities shortly, as soon as I have a chance to take them up on their offer to let me visit them. However, I feel it is my moral obligation to write about them as a brew pub, simply because they are one of the top places, if not the best, for craft beer in Madrid.

Located in number 29 of Calle Valverde, in the heart of the vibrant neighborhood of Malasaña, in the center of Madrid. It is the perfect place to go both if you are a novice or an experienced craft beer drinker.

It is run by a multinational group of beer aficionados who are always willing to take a moment to explain what they have on tap, ask you about your tastes and make suggestions accordingly. This is particularly noteworthy, as just the steady flow of patrons in this place is enough to plunge even the most relaxed bar-keep into a stress-fueled state of grumpiness, something which does not happen from what I have seen.

Their taps change pretty regularly, keeping a steady rotation between different styles. However they almost always have their spectacular Fl(ipa) and Malasaña Ale available, which are neighborhood favorites. Given their high demand, batches never last too long, but they have been known to have a delicious saison, an insanely strong quadruple (which I have not yet been able to catch on tap), a stout, an oktoberfest, a strong Belgian-style ale and a very interesting darker colored beer called Bitterscotch.

They also offer some of their beers in bottles to take home with you, although this is generally more the case for those beers they have on constantly like the Fl(ipa) and the Malasaña Ale. You may increasingly be able to get the others though as they have recently bought a bottling system which allows them to instantly bottle anything they have on tap.

Bottling in action

The brew pub opens its doors at 6 pm on weekdays and at 12.30 pm on weekends and closes at midnight. Nevertheless, you are well advised to try and get there early if you plan to get a seat, as it quickly fills up given its ever rising popularity.
