A new craft beer fest will see the light this month in Salamanca, the Feria de la Cerveza y el Queso.

As its name suggests, it will not only host beer, but also cheese. The official count is about 70 different beers from 20 different microbreweries and 15 different cheeses to pair them with.

Participating breweries will include the following:
  • Cerveza Sagra
  • Cerveza Bizzarra
  • Cerveza Códice
  • Cerveza Vier
  • La Real del Duero
  • Cerveza Milana
  • Cerveza Cazurra
  • Malasombra
  • Torquemada
  • Cerveza Dougall's
  • Cerveza Bresañ
  • Sesma Brewing
  • Cerveza Blomberg
  • Cerveza Helmántica
  • El Secreto del Abad
  • Cerveza Caleya
  • Cerveza Lega
  • Espíritu Clandestino
  • El Cantero
  • Las Llaves de San Pedro
The cheeses available will be both Spanish and foreign in origin, with such types as Torta del Casar, Idiazábal, Manchego, Parmesan and Gruyère.

Admission is free, but in order to try the beers you will have to purchase the festival's official glass.

For when you get tired of eating and drinking, if you ever do, the festival has arranged a number of concerts with local bands and a set of conferences and short courses on beer tasting and brewing. The concerts are free, while the courses and conferences have a prices of €3 each.

Salamanca, aside from being a beautiful city, is famous for being home to one of the oldest universities in the country and as such is still considered one of the foremost college towns in Spain. That itself is sure to make this festival one of the liveliest and most entertaining ones around. Not to mention that it probably means it won't be closing at 1am...

  1. Thanks for sharing! You are welcome to come visit us and do some sightseeing while having a local beer. Salamanca (so as Spain) is still a young market referred to craft beer, but little by little it's gaining popularity and now you can find local craft beer in lots of non-specialized bars, which two years ago was unthinkable. So I wish this fest to be a success and may it serve to broaden horizons in a still industrial lager-dominated market.

    Cheers! Salud!
